First in Flight
December 14, 2020
On December 17, 1903 the first recorded controlled and sustained flight by a heavier than air machine took place at Kill Devil Hills in North Carolina. Orville and Wilbur Wright created their craft after many years studying flight. They flew to a height of 10 feet for over 100 feet. This was a major achievement of the time.
We are happy to have this amazing historical event take place in the state we call home. Thanks to what they started, flight has grown ever more powerful and efficient. Humans can now fly around the world and even off this world to explore. Once life returns closer to normal, we will be very excited to travel on some modern aircraft. Thanks Wilbur and Orville!
