Did you know that Herman Lay was born in Charlotte, NC on June 3, 1909? He went on to become a major player in the potato chip industry. He was an entrepreneur from a young age, selling Pepsis when he live in Greenville, South Carolina to sports spectators.
He later worked at Barrett Potato Chip Company, based in Atlanta, Georgia. He eventually bought that company and built many factories making chips under the H. W. Lay and Company. In 1961 he merged with Frito Company to form Frito-Lay. In 1965 he spearheaded the merger with Pepsi to form PepsiCo.
